Leafs should consider signing Tanguay. four-year contract for 20 million?

  3. Rico420 says:

Habs maybe should take a flyer on McLaren and Lang still?

Kind of looks like the Kovalev era in Montreal is over as well.

They need to sign a backup goalie who knows it's his role to mentor and help Price not to push Price to keep his job as the starter.

  4. the_word says:

4 years at 16 million, not a penny more.

  5. RealisticNick says:

Not really scary, I wouldn't get too excited.  And when did Gustavsson sign?

  6. reinjosh says:

    nooooooooo
we dont want to get better yet
we want one more season of bad before we go gangbusters on UFA's
tanguay is not worth the money and should not sign with the leafs
it would be a very bad day for the leafs

  7. Elite_Destruction says:

Leafs should consider signing Marcel Goc, i don't see why you don't take a chance on him, you will get him cheap, he has all the potential in the world, he didn't thrive in SJ because he didn't get all that much playing time, He's only 25, not to mention a former 20th overall pick.

Also we should try to sign Mark-Andre Bergeron, If we infact do trade Kabs, well there is his replacement for years to come, I think thesae would be very smart moves by Burke, and would not cause that much damage to our cap.

  8. Komic-J says:

    FORWARDS (9) – ($26.487)
Scott Gomez ($7.357), Mike Cammalleri ($6.000), Brian Gionta ($5.000), Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.250), Sergei Kostitsyn ($0.817), Maxim Lapierre ($0.688), Max Pacioretty ($0.875), George Laraque ($1.500) and Glen Metropolit ($1.000).

    DEFENSEMEN (6) – ($19.375)
Andrei Markov ($5.750), Roman Hamrlik ($5.500), Jaroslav Spacek ($3.833), Hal Gill (2.250), Josh Gorges ($1.100) and Ryan O'Byrne ($0.942).

    GOALTENDERS (2) – ($2.975)
Carey Price ($2.200) and Jaroslav Halak ($0.775).

    PAYROLL: $48.837
    CAP: $56.800
    CAP SPACE: $7.963

RFA'S TO SIGN: Tomas Plekanec, Guillaume Latendresse and Matt D'Agostini.
    * Kyle Chipchura and Greg Stewart are on that list as well, but will probably be sent down to Hamilton, and won't count against our cap.

ROSTER SPOT STILL OPEN: Unless Gainey and Martin feel comfortable with the Kostitsyn brothers playing with Plekanec on our second line, I think we're still missing a Top-6 winger. Tanguay would've been my pick here, but looks like he's not part of the plan. Too bad, playing Gomez with Gionta, and Tanguay with Cammalleri would've given us two solid playmaker/sniper combo.

Gainey still failed to bring size upfront, and while Antropov is still available, I doubt the Canadiens have the cap room to make him an offer he would accept. I'd take Antropov over Plekanec though, if we could find a way to send him somewhere else.

Apparently, Gainey is looking to add another D-Man. Pretty much confirms that Gainey as little faith in O'Byrne as our 6th defenseman. Beauchemin would've been nice (and a hell of a lot better than Gill), but again…no cap room for that kind of player. I guess Dennis Seidenberg or Kurtis Foster could be good pickups at this point.

WHAT I'D LIKE TO SEE: Pure fantasy here, but I think the Habs should take advantage of Philly's situation. The feeling right now is that they are trying to move Daniel Briere…but Simon Gagne's name poped-up a couple of times as well. Don't know if they are also willing to give up on Matt Carle, but I would take a shot.

Then, if somehow Gainey could find a way to trade Hamrlik away, and sign a cheaper defenseman, that would be ideal in my opinion. Hamrlik is not a top pairing defenseman, but is getting paid like one. I'd take anything to get that salary off the books; even a 7th round pick. But Gainey as to find a suitable replacement first, which won't be easy through free agency.

    FREE AGENCY
I might be the only one, but I'd like to see the Habs take a shot at Maxim Afinogenov. Probably won't cost much given how bad he was last year, but on a short term contract, I think he's a good gamble. He could fit well on our second line with Plekanec and AK.

    KOVALEV, TANGUAY AND KOIVU
I'm sad to see Tanguay leave, as I really thought he was a prefect player for our type of team. Skilled and fast, just how Bob seems to like them. I don't care what some fans say, Koivu as been a great leader for the Habs throughout his tenure as our captain. Sure, he never got the points you would exepect from a first line center, but I don't see how anyone could questioned his heart and passion for the game. I wish him the best of luck, hoping he'll end-up in Anaheim or Minny.

I would've taken Kovalev back (at the right price), but I'm not that sad to see him leave. Sure, he's one heck of a player when he's on, but you never which Kovalev is gonna show up on game night.

I think Burke is trying to sign F, Manny Malholtra & D, Marc-Andre Bergeron or D, Beauchemin just incase the rumor of Kaberle-Kessel trade does happen which I do because the Leafs do need a top 6 forward.
    -I want Tanguay as well!
-i Hope Gustavsson (monster) signs with the Leafs
