Well, the season is set to start with puck dropping around the league on the 15th. With that, I’m sure many of us are scrambling around to organize our fantasy leagues. In the spirit I thought we should have a discussion around the anticipated best of every position.
I’m making the assumption that we’re going off points, PPP, face offs, PIMs, hits, and the usual goalie stats.
Here’s my take:
There may be NHL hockey this fall after all…at least in Quebec.
Sources confirm several high profile French Canadian NHL players and agents are considering forming two teams to play games while NHL players and owners battle it out at the bargaining table.
Some of these players includes stars Daniel Briere, Claude Giroux, Patrice Bergeron, David Perron, and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
The initial idea is to have two teams, one representing Montreal and the other representing Quebec City, to travel throughout Quebec playing at least one game per week. There’s talk of all the proceeds going to charity.
The idea of adding other Canadian markets such as Ottawa and Toronto has also been tossed around.
Over the next two or three weeks you will hear of more NHL players signing contracts to play over in Europe. Jussi Jokinen (Car) and D-man Jason Demers (San) recently inked contracts to play in the Finnish Elite League.
Others such as Valtteri Filppula and Teemu Selanne could join Jokerit in the Finnish league sometime in the near future.

Since predictions are “OH SO FUN”, why not start now? Remember when Jonathane, I think, used to check these articles months after? So, it will be fun making predictions now and after months go by you look back at what you said and go “oh! how did I come up with that!?”.
So, how about predicting what the standings will be by mid-season? When a team plays its 41st game, that will mark mid season.
Also, if you want, give a rason why you placed a team in that postion…much better that way.
Complete this sentence…
“If my team won the Stanley cup I’d…”
What would you do if your team were to win the cup? That simple, how would you celebrate? How would you mark the occasion? Remember points are awarded for originality.
The end of the year is usually left to positive reports on those who overachieve. In our zeal to extenuate the positive, we forget those who underachieve, fail, or just plain stick. Without further adieu, the NHL 2002 Bizarro Awards, exclusively on Hockeytraderumors.com.
Ok I know some of you didn’t like my Tom Green type joke. So I had an idea that every Monday we share a couple jokes with each other. Love to hear sports related jokes, but other will be fine as well. Here are a couple…
For the past few years, I’ve always joked with my friends that a particular team is so inept they’ll have to take anyone that breathes just to play with them. Well, I’ve decided to take the joke further and put together some “Help Wanted” ads for this express purpose. Let’s see if you can guess the teams (Answers at the bottom). Enjoy:
