How about Cam Neely and a 1st round draft pick (Glen Wesley) for Barry Pederson?

  2. leafy says:

The Leaf forwards are terrible defensively. Why this comes up every so often is a big mystery.

Geeze…Where’s the “Let’s trade 1st rounders” and “sign Kadri to Crosby-like money” now?

I have not, and will not, base this entire season on a stretch of 10-games…They are in the playoffs, when they actually qualify for it.

Until then, this is still a bubble team.

I didn’t see anybody here say we should trade our 1st pick. Nor sign Kadri to Crosby money. I, for one, simply said I want to see more.

What’s killing this team is that they need about 3 or 4 good defensive forwards and one more big strong defenseman. These changes may NOT be possible this year.

Kessel, JVR and Bozak are awful defensively. When the core players can’t play well without the puck, you better have a good defensive supporting cast. The Leafs clearly don’t.

The Leafs would be vastly improved by adding a good strong TWO WAY center. Maybe instead of Kadri, the Leafs should be looking to move Bozak instead? Probably summer moves though. Just saying.

I think now they should look at strongly going after Ryan O’Reilly. I’m not sure what the price would be but as long as it isn’t an overpayment we should at least inquire.

Unfortunately without some desperation to make a move or a bottom feeder team looking to move a big strong defensive dman we won’t fill in that slot this year. The good 2-way forward may be the only move we have.

    • TmLeafan says:

Nobody said resign him to Crosby money thats a straw man you created. You have been saying Kadri sucks for a while, now that sounds foolish because he has been playing some great hockey.

I think we should resign him for around 5 mil a season which is the going rate for good 2nd line centres in this league which is exactly what he is.

Leafs need to shake things up for sure, we have too many bad defensive forwards and a bad mix on the blueline but we should keep Kadri.

Let’s also remember that the Leafs have beaten pretty much every good team in the NHL except for Pittsburgh. Fluke? No way.

The Leafs have some good cards. They just need a few more changes to get a winning hand. See above.

I agree with the moving Bozak idea. He has offensive ability but we have plenty of that already. Thing with moving Bozak is I have no idea what the return would be. 2nd round pick and decent prospect?

To LN91’s point, the Leafs will get hot again, I hope we collectively realize that those moments are when the windows opens to sell high.

To Steven’s point, yes target ROR, Kessel, JVR, Bernier and Rielly are my only untouchables. Could Franson + Gardiner be enticing to them? Perhaps package Franson along with a Santos or a money pucker that the Avs like? Avs need a lot of two way help.

Personal wish list would be that the Leafs land ROR and E.Kane moving forward.

    Happy holidays HTR board.

    • TmLeafan says:

I would be very happy with ROR/E. Kane. We would have to include Lupul in the deal too to make it fit under the cap, or deal him separately for futures.
