I see this as a hint a huge blockbuster trade is coming. Like I predicted for months.

TSN Reporters completely burying Ovie in favor of Stamkos… gooooooooooo Canadurrrrrrr…

    • mojo19 says:

      People still watch TSN?

That said, I would be weary of OV in fantasy with Barry Trotz coming in. Could mean OV will become a more rounded player but sacrifice some offence.

On the other hand if an old Arnott and JP Dumont could usually put up 70+ pts under Trotz then OV could hit 100+ this year.

Though I do think Stammer will outscore him. Grabbed Drouin on my keeper so I’m pulling for that.

      • leafs_wallace93 says:

Lol, TSN be trolling, Kessel 38th 😛

        • TmLeafan says:

Ya and Seguin, Giroux, Perry, P. Kane all top 15. They are all one dimensional scorers, only difference is that Kessel outproduces them while playing with less of a supporting cast.

If Phil was Canadian, played centre and fired out a couple of cliches I’d like to know where these “experts” would place him on the list. David Kreijci, Joe Pavelski ahead of him what a joke.

          • leafs_wallace93 says:

A couple of years ago Giroux was #3, I said whats the difference between Giroux and Kessel? Giroux has some fairy dangles… Kessel’s speed and nose for the net makes him better.

          • lafleur10 says:

kessel is one dimensional and overrated he’s han’t had more points than giroux, perry,or kane in a season and perry and kane have won cups and were key players in their teams run to the cup
giorux hasn’t won a cup but has been to a cup final and is a better player than kessel his numbers prove it….however i agree he should be higher than pavelski and a couple of guys listed ahead of him

            • LN91 says:

              What’s his dimension?

            • leafs_wallace93 says:

Kane played behind Kessel on team USA, Kane is the third best player on those cup teams.

Giroux plays defense? He’s 160, hell I have 20 pounds on that twink when I dip under 10% body fat. Giroux is feather soft and not as consistent in terms of production as Kessel year in year out. He couldn’t even make team Canada. Let alone be a tournament stand out like Kessel.

Getzlaf and Perry won a cup forty years ago but can’t do get it done without Pronger and Niedermayer carrying them.

Weak arguments even for you lafluer (call me turd, on cue), I suppose you have a future covering hockey on RDS given your myopic views, that is if they’re still covering hockey a year from now.

              • Gambo says:

Honestly I think I’d rather have Giroux than Kessel.

              • lafleur10 says:

kessel is not that good your making him sound like a superstar, fact is he’s not and never will be be giroux is a better player his point totals tell you that end of story same with getzlaf and perry kessel sure dominated the olympics alright he did shit against canada giroux could’ve and would’ve made team canada had he been invited…kessel wouldn’t have made team canada either for that matter if he tried out for them kane is still a better player than kessel so is toews as well like it or not your golden boy is not in those guys league! he’s not even a 40 goal scorer like so many here claim he is!
                giroux not consistant yeah ok
here’s his number you tell me if he’s not consistant:
                2012-13 48 points in 48 games

                2011-12 77 games 93 points
                2010-11 82 games 76 points
                2009-10 82 games 47 points
                2008-09 42 games 27 points
                2008-09 (his rookie season)

that s pretty consistant if you ask me his point totals have went up each year since his rookie year!

                • lafleur10 says:

                  2013-14 82 games 86 points

                • leafs_wallace93 says:

Whatever you say Lafluer ignore reality when the Flyers owner was throwing a tantrum over Giroux getting snub and Kane was Kessel’s water boy. Giroux doesn’t have better numbers over the last four years.

I get reality isn’t your thing though.

                  • LN91 says:

                    I prefer Giroux over Kessel…

                    • TmLeafan says:

Because he plays Centre? Thats the only reason I can think of. Same amount of points but Kessel scores more goals.

                    • leafs_wallace93 says:

Giroux is a reformed winger, not a 200 foot game center.

He’s basically Pat Kane, I much prefer Kessel’s game as it’s less bs stickhandling/pure skill.

                  • lafleur10 says:

reality? i can see you need a dose of reality! giroux is a better player what more do i need to post ? the numbers prove it and the flyers throwing a tantrum isn’t what this is about you said kessel was better i posted giroux s number to prove he isn’t …. only leafs fans think kessel is the best player in the league and in a class by himself and he isn’the’s a good player not a great player he’s certainly isn’t in crosby, stamkos, malkin, ovechkin, tavares, seguin p.kane league

                    • leafs_wallace93 says:

P Kane and Giroux aren’t in Malkin’s league.

Kessel better numbers over four years total, more consistent.

Giroux and Kane score effeminate ringette goals, Kessel scores like a straight man, is stronger than both, Kane didn’t play ahead of Kessel on the same team.

You play behind players that are better than you, period.

                      Kane, Giroux = gay

  3. nordiques100 says:

its again an issue with perception on the Canadian TV networks.

Since TSN is now home to 26 regional Leaf games, they have to go out of their way to not be “homers”. Not one of them wants to be branded the next Joe Bowen. So, like how Rogers has been doing for years, they have to slam them to be un-bias or at least appear that way.

The Rogers broadcast could be insufferable. Doug MacLean, Kypreos, Healy, Cox are all massive Leaf haters. Same with Stock who thankfully will just have a limited role. They’ve covered the Leafs too much in their media careers that they simply dislike them and are just dying to see the Leafs falter, but not really, because they want the Leafs to be in 9th-10th place so they get stuck with no high end prospect at the draft.

  4. LN91 says:

I like Kozun on the Leafs, and despite the ending…I thought Percy played very well.

    Everyone else was ‘meh’.

    • lafleur10 says:

yeah that kozun kid is fast the game was good but it was very different ,you alays see at least a fight ,a scrum or something between our teams and their was nothing… bernier gave up a couple of really bad goals that cost you the game
your defence is still the same as last year even robidas looked slow

    • Gambo says:

Percy looked good until Carlyle decided to put him out every second shift. But yeah, other than Kozun no one was really great or even that good. I do like the Komarov-Santorelli-Clarkson line though.

      • lafleur10 says:

well he deserved it he was playing good so your coach rewarded him for it he played better than your 7 million dollar man

    • leafs_wallace93 says:

Shades of Mike Gartner, how long do you think it will take for Kozun to reach 700 goals?
Percy has been impressive much like the Detroit game, makes up for the Biggs pick.

I know you would mention it but Kadri and Bozak were solid.

Nice to see a team that doesn’t implode on the PK.

      • leafs_wallace93 says:

        wouldn’t mention it….

      • nordiques100 says:

Bozak was not good. The top line was dreadful last night. Here’s hoping its a 1 game thing which i believe it is just that.

That line was the only line who didnt seem to be following the program and were the ones mostly hemmed in the zone and giving the puck away.

The Kadri and Holland lines had minor trouble, but thats because their line cannot win a faceoff to save their life and Holland’s line got caught on 2 icings.

2 key neutral zone turnovers, one by Kessel one by Bozak led to goals.

the only players on the plus side or even side of the ledger were the 3rd and 4th lines plus their 3rd D pair. Tough break for Percy having it go off his foot. He played a great opening game. not bad at all for a debut.

He reminds me of Kaberle a bit how he can get himself out of trouble. He just isnt as soft as Kaberle. But the guy can defend as there is just no panic there.

        • LN91 says:

I know it’s one game…But the issues always seem to be the same.

No one besides Bozak can win a draw, the team looks confused, and Dion Phaneuf still getting owned 1-on-1.

          • nordiques100 says:

arguably the team’s 5 best players were terrible last night.

Phaneuf, Kessel, Bozak, JVR, Bernier who let in a stinker to start.

No team can win with their best players being awful.

More likely than not, those 5 players will have more good games than bad, but clearly this team can’t win if all 5 of them are awful at the same time.

on the bright side, all the plugs and kids seem to play fairly solidly.

            • leafy says:

I hope that’s nothing chronic, because that would mean the Leafs are rotten to the core. An extremely serious problem.

But we need to cut them some slack. Only one game.

              • nordiques100 says:

Oh yeah i said that above, just a game and they’ll bounce back for sure. But looking at the opener specifically, they were brutal.

                • LN91 says:

You will get better games from Kessel, JVR, and Bernier for sure. That game was uncharacteristic.

Bozak, too much pressure and expectations from a guy that’s unsuited for what he does. He’s a good player, second-line center…But not a key in the cog type thing.

Phanuef, same story, each year…So, why is anyone surprised?

  5. leafy says:

I still say the Leafs biggest problem is coaching. But it’s only one game and hard to make anything out of one game.

  6. leafy says:

Richard Panik Seems like a worthy waiver pick up. Some times these 6’6″ guys take a bit longer to reach their peak. At 23, hopefully his best days are still ahead. Possible top 6 forward if he pans out. I’m at least hoping he’s good forward depth.

  7. Gambo says:

After hearing the leafs goal song, i’m 100% if favor of them never scoring again this season and drafting mcdavid.

  8. LN91 says:

    Nice start for Joe Colborne…

    • Gambo says:

Yeah no kidding. He looked good out there. Raymond also. Good for them.

      • LN91 says:

I would not be surprised if Colborne develops into what Toronto wanted…

Players need actual NHL experience to get used to the game (especially as a Top-6 player), that is where Toronto has screwed up. They will probably destroy Holland’s development as well.

  9. kessel_leafs81 says:

Kind of upset that they sent leivo to the minors. Sending bodie to the minors was “meh” but the leafs actually dont seem soft enough to need bodie up protecting everyone. Polak is a pretty big dude if worst comes to worse and we have clarkson when he takes his cage off. At least in the montreal game i did notice more puck possession potential then last year. Not saying we dominated down low but we at least have guys like the komarov line that can maintain a cycle for more then 2 passes. Thats one of the few positives coming from that game. I like the panik pickup, dude has potential but what would the lines be? i doubt they pick him up to let him sit on the bench. I honestly think holland is overrated and fine with him being the scratch and switching komarov to center (he took a surprising amount of faceoffs). Panik is a better shooter while santorelli can play cycle but better off the rush and better suited with frattin IMO but could also cycle with winnik. Holland kills that line (dont know where my dislike came from), id like too see:

    JVR – bozak – kessel
    lupul – kadri – Kozun
    Winnik – santorelli – frattin
    Panik – Komarov – Clarkson
    holland

I think that’d be a better option. Or switch winnik with panik and have a big cycle line of winnik – komarov- clarkson.

    • LN91 says:

Leivo needed a bit more seasoning, the wait approach has benefited the Leafs. He will probably be down in the AHL for one more season.

Most likely, Frattin will come out of the lineup. The Leafs need Holland their for development purposes.

      • TmLeafan says:

Ya 4th line is looking like Winnik-Holland-Panik. I like it. Lots of size on that line and I thought Holland looked good in the first game seems to have improved his skating.

D still needs to be worked out Phaneuf and Robidas didn’t look good and I like Rielly/Gardiner but think they are both better paired with someone else.

Kadri looked like he had lots of jump seems to be faster which is positive.

  10. leafy says:

The Leafs should recall Bates Battaglia.

  11. TmLeafan says:

I have no idea why everyone is so high on the Habs this year. Had a lucky playoff run and you have every analyst all over their nuts.

Maclean saying Gallagher is going to score 30 and John Shannon asked if there is a better team in the NHL lines 1-4 than Montreal. Am I missing something? Desarnais, Rene Bourque, Dale Weiss, Sekac give me a break. Think they are a borderline playoff team. Only a matter of time before they are booed off homeice. Therrien is an average coach who will most likely be fired, possibly before Carlyle.

    • leafy says:

Yeah WAY too early. If they repeat the same success this year, then that would be impressive, but I’m not yet sold that they’re THAT good.

    • lafleur10 says:

therrien fired before carlyle put the crack puipe down buddy and give your head a serious shake the habs are that good of a team …..they’ll battle for the top of the division funnyyou mention wiese, desharnias, bourque and sekac conviently and leave out gakchenyuk, gallagher, paioretty, plekanec parenteau
that’s better than what the leafs currently have bozak, homorov, lupul, clarkson gimme a break the only thing they have up fron is van reimsdyk and to a lesser degree kessl afert that it’s terrible i’ll take wiese ,sekac, eller galchenyuk, ggallagher or clarkson, kadri, lupul any day of the week

      • LN91 says:

        Homorov? That’s a new one.

Atleast he does not cry lik Gayagher does all the time, what a wimp.

      • TmLeafan says:

I was reffering to what John Shannon said before the Washington game ( a game where you were totally outplayed). He said that they have some of the best forward lines in the league 1-4 which is absurd.

Your depth doesn’t impress me at all. Added Sekac, Malhotra and Parenteau to an already average group. Sekac is totally unproven, Malhotra is like 40 years olda nd all he does is win faceoffs and Parenteau is decent offensively but very inconsistent and bad defensively which is why he is on his third team in 2 years. You don’t have a bad team and ya some good players for sure but I really think MTL is going to be with a whole pack of teams (NYI, TOR,WSH, OTT,PHi, CLB, NJ) fighting to make the playoffs.

        • lafleur10 says:

average group? they’re betteer than your group that’s a give i heard what john shannon said he’s right because of the depth we have plus the kids o the bulldogs we ccan add if we get injuries …i do agree however he’s way off base of gallagher scoring 30 goals….gally will be a 20 goal scorer and will never score 30 he might score 25 but would be maxium in a season sekac is unproven but very talented and skilled their’s a reason 12 teams wanted him …..parenteau fell out of favor with patrick roy but is a solid point producer i think he’ll score 25 goals this season …malhotra is one of the best in the league at faceoffs and wins 70% of his draws which helps the transition game and when you have a fast team like ours it benefits us to have that type of guy we’ll behead of the pack of team you listed nyi, ott, tor, phi, clb,nj) because of our depth defence and price we’ll challenge the lightning for 1st in out dvision yeah i agree we wereout played by the capitals in the 1st period but we took over the that game in the 2nd and 3rd period …..good teams find ways to win games like that, however we can’t keep doing that or it will come back to bite us in the ass……

  12. leafs_wallace93 says:

Is Bernier that much better than Reimer?

    http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/is-bernier-that-much-better-than-reimer/

After one game? This decade + of Sportsnet looks to be insufferable.

  13. leafy says:

After 2 games, quite obvious what the problem is. The forwards suck. Only Lupul is playing right now. Everybody else sucks.

    • LN91 says:

I think Kessel is playing injured, he does not look right..

If that is the case, say your prayers fellow Leafs fans,

      • leafy says:

Totally agree. Kessel is not himself. In which case, is it not better to let him heal and get him back 100% than have him playing and be unproductive?

        • LN91 says:

Shows you how much Kessel/Bernier/Reimer has carried this squad the last 2 years…If any of those guys have a bad/average season (which is still pretty good for most players in this leagye), Leafs are screwed.

          • leafy says:

Interesting Coach’s Corner tonight. Don Cherry was in vintage form.

            • LN91 says:

I hate that senile old man.

To trash an 18-year old because he’s Swedish, is completely low…Even for him. Yeah, Nick Ritchie might be a solid/above average NHL player but the Leafs swung for the fences with Nylander because he has a way better ceiling…And I like it.

Also, to suggest the Leafs suck in 2014-15 because they drafted no Canadian/OHL/GTHL? players in last years draft is absurd.

Look at the Leafs drafting since the rebuild began (Schenn draft):

              – Matt Finn (OHL)
              – Connor Brown (OHL)
              – Ryan Rupert (OHL)
              – Jamie Devane (OHL)
              – Barron Smith (OHL)
              – Greg McKegg (OHL)
              – Sam Carrick (OHL)
              – Stuart Percy (OHL)
              – Josh Leivo (OHL)
              – David Broll (OHL)
              – Garrett Sparks (OHL)
              – Carter Verhaege (OHL)

And that does not even include WHL or QMJHL.

To suggest that Toronto should have drafted Slater Koekkok over Morgan Reilly and Jason Dickinson over Frederik Gautheier because they play in the OHL is completely stupid.

              • 93killer93 says:

Exactly. Plus there’s kadri, they drafted Jesse Blacker and traded him for Peter Holland. Another former OHL player. Over a third of their picks since 2009 have been guys from the OHL.

            • leafs_wallace93 says:

Wonder why the Jets didn’t get hammered by him for drafting Elhers ahead of Richie, a least Nylander has some confidence.

            • leafy says:

I don’t agree with everything he says either, but the dude is entertaining like fuck.

Also interesting that the least educated guy in sports broadcasting is also the most effective speaker. Cherry is an outstanding public speaker. I’m surprised nobody ever mentions that.

  14. leafs_wallace93 says:

Stealing McDavid from Buffalo is the best case scenario, I’m happy to see a season of underachieving, especially stumbling out of the gate, no more wait and see, if tanking make the most sense Dubas and the rest of his yearbook committee will pursue whichever option makes the most sense.

Nonis is on the chopping block.

    • lafleur10 says:

i think nonis and carlyle will both be gone by the end of the month when the leafs are 1-7

      • leafy says:

I’ll even settle for just Carlyle fired. Should have been fired in April. It was a no brainer. Virtually any other team would have fired him 100%. Except the Leafs. Stupid stupid stupid team.

        • lafleur10 says:

well leafy i think you won’t have to wait much longer for that to happen i think another loss or and for the leafs to look as bad as they have and it’ll happen like i said leafy i think by the end of the month carlyle wil be gone ….nonis won’t be far behind i give him until season s end or maybe even sooner depends on where they sit by christmas if they are out of it by then i can see them doing that too playing out the stretch and letting the new gm make some changes at the deadline and letting him continue in the off season and at the draft

          • leafy says:

Lafleur, maybe it will happen like when Montreal went 0-5, then fired coach Jacques Demers and hired Mario Trembley and then went on a long winning steak. No?

            • lafleur10 says:

yup that’s right we did after we fired jacques demers and serge savard we rattled off a 5- 6 in a row

        • leafs_wallace93 says:

The only way Caryle is getting fired is if Babcock signs an extension during the season with the Wings.

Caryle is our coach until it’s 100% that Babcock isn’t, this is the Brain Burke out of Anahiem 2.0

  15. lafleur10 says:

i wonder if leafs fans would like marc bergevin as their gm?

    • leafs_wallace93 says:

So we can force Rielly into a bridge deal then make him the third highest player in the league when he comes of it?

  16. Gambo says:

Scratching Gardiner? Ya fuck off Carlyle.

  17. leafy says:

Well that’s more like it. Solid win tonight. So clearly more games are needed to get a feel for how good/bad this team is. Reimer was the ‘old’ Reimer again from back in 2013.

    • kessel_leafs81 says:

He was very solid tonight i agree. Id for sure give him more games to see if hes back to his old self and best case scenario we have a goalie controversy and have a good trading piece for a nicer return then we would have had at seasons end. Another thing too.. Percy? where did this guy come from? winning the coaches confidence over gardiner and playing exceptionally well. He looks to be very solid and an example of what not rushing a player could do for him. He’s playing with confidence and is acting like a vet on the blueline. We have some pretty nice depth on d if we have a chance to move a dman for a forward or something.

      • LN91 says:

Percy will be a solid top-4 D-Men, the Leafs have drafted tons of talented D-Men…But they do need time.

He does not WOW you…He’s just all-around solid, with good foot speed. A great pick by BB (Who, drafted him higher up then expected).

If you think Percy is good, wait until you see Matt Finn!

        • leafs_wallace93 says:

Percy is already getting put in his own feature trade proposals on HFboards, so safe to say he’s arrived.

  18. leafy says:

Good to see the Habs get a taste of humble pie tonight in Tampa Bay. Habs fans were getting cocky.

    • LN91 says:

I thought it was kind of insulting that Tampa would play Kucherov, Namestnikov, and Connolly with a minute left on the PP…

But then I realized that was their third/fourth-line.
