One of the greatest ever, up there with Yzerman. What I loved most about Sakic is he didn't have the most talent but he made the most out of the talent that he had, maybe more than anybody else since Henri Richard. Happy retirement Burnaby Joe.

    Joe's the man!!

  3. KingCanada says:

Joe Sakic was the current all time leading point scorer in the league with 1641 points (damn thats alot).

The torch is now passed onto Mark Recchi with 1442 and counting!

Side note: Will Chris Chelios be offered a contract?  Or forced to retire?

One of the all-time greats.  Number 8 on the all-time scoring list, two Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe, a Hart Trophy, and many other awards.

Next stop: the Hall of Fame.

First ballot hall of famer for sure – classy guy and I guess not going to be captain of the Olympic team in Vancouver now.

Joe was the guy though that you knew would retire when he knew he was a step back in his game – kind of too bad there aren't more guys that think this way.

    Thanks for the memories Joe.

Classy hockey player, and one of the greatest to ever live.

First ballot HOF without a question.

  7. BruMagnus says:

He'll pull a Selanne and join the Pens in January, and go on to win his final Cup as the Pens repeat.

     LMFAO!

Will any of us  ever forget the classiest moment in Joe's career? The 2001 Stanley Cup that he handed immediately to Ray?

That was total respect. I loved that moment.

First class player and person…..Model of consistency, integrity, and a clutch player.

Best of Luck Joe – Thanks for the 20 years of highlights.

And the break away goal to clinch the Gold medal in Salt Lake City.

Another moment that stands out is that blown call by Van Hellemond in the 1995 playoffs against the Rangers.  Sakic scored, but the play was called back.  It cost Quebec the series…and Van Hellemond's career was over.

  13. Jenkinstein says:

I remember him as one of the main reasons I started to watch hockey in the early 90s when he was still in Quebec.  Amazing player with a lot of memorable teams and players who followed his lead through hell (those Col-Det series of the 90s were epic) and scored some slick goals in his career.  I hope that the talent emerging now will live up to the style of play and conduct of character Sakic exhibited over his career.  All the best.

As an aside, its kind of depressing that this article has only 15 posts while the one about Gustavsson has over 100.  You crazy fan boys.

I'd be hard pressed to think of a sports figure I found more dull than Joe Sakic.

    Randy Johnson
