First of all, I’d like to congratulate the Pittsburgh Penguins for playing impeccable hockey. They did everything they needed to do to win: their best players played their best, the defense kept the opposition away from their net, they got solid goaltending, and their special teams were dominant. So after being swept 4-0 in the first round (reminiscent of 1999 vs. Toronto), what will happen to the Sens in the off-season??
Canes re-sign Sergei Samsonov for 3 years!
The Canes have agreed to terms with right wing Sergei Samsonov on a three-year contract. The deal will pay Samsonov $2.3 million in 2008-09, $2.5 million in 2009-10 and $2.8 million in 2010-11.

The setback started with the failed efforts at the trade deadline to move veterans for young assets and shed some salary. The setback continues today with not one candidate found or even interviewed in the team’s search for a new hockey boss.

Robert Michael “Bob” Gainey, is arguably the best GM in hockey right now. Unquestionably the best GM The Habbies have had since Mr. Sam Pollock, God rest his soul.

Penguins take a 3-0 stranglehold
The Pittsburgh Penguins are continuing to play amazing hockey following an excellent regular season. In Ottawa, the Pens scored 3 third period goals to take the game 4-1 and increase their lead to 3-0 in the series. They are the only team in this year’s playoffs to win the first 3 games, with the Stars having a chance to match them today. The Penguins are one win away from their first playoff series victory in seven years. The Ottawa Senators will try to duplicate the feats accomplished by the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs and 1975 New York Islanders, who are the only NHL teams to have erased 3-0 series deficits. An interesting note is there was a 33 year gap between those comebacks, and 2008 also marks 33 years since the last one.

Turco, Ribeiro and the Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars may be surprising many people with their 2 road wins in Anaheim. The reason for their success has been mostly due to the superb play of Marty Turco and Mike Ribeiro, one of the most underrated players in the NHL.
With the series returning to Dallas on Tuesday night, one has to wonder if the defending Stanley Cup Champions can win one, or both, games in Dallas to avoid the sweep.

The Score sports network up here in Canada is reporting that the Canucks have fired GM Dave Nonis. My only question is, what took so long?

As a Devils fan I have to say that it did work at messing with Marty. As a hockey fan I see it as the biggest minor league move I’ve ever seen. When Chris Drury as to come over and tell him to stop you can tell no one liked it. What you guys feel about it?

Well hockey fans, there have been many great movies about baseball teams who have won the world series, and various Golf movies, and Super Bowl movies, but now finally a Stanley Cup movie!
According to this article on NHL.com the Stanley Cup makes its “first starring turn in a feature film” in the Paramount feature film “The Love Guru” written by Mike Myers and starring Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake.
A War To Look Foward To!
Montreal & Boston just finished playing 3 games in 4 nights and despite the players being bumped, bruised and exhausted they still managed to put on a show.
Montreal leads the series 2-1 but haven’t been dominating like everyone thought…..
Canucks close to signing Fabian Brunnstrm
TSN.ca is reporting that the Vancouver Canucks are close to signing 23 year old Fabian Brunnström. http://tsn.ca/blogs/darren_dreger/?id=234166. Brunnström’s agent JP Barry and the Canucks hope to have the deal done some time in the next week. However, it still remains a possibility that the Detroit Redwings do have a chance at the 23 year old swede.
