This season, the Wild’s healthy and goaltending has not been an issue. The problem is with the exception of recently heated-up Charlie Coyle, the Wild’s in a team-wide goal-scoring slump.

The Wings do like Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien, a right-handed shooting 6-foot-5, 250-pound behemoth, as a top-pair defenseman or top-six right winger, but they’d need to clear space for his $5.2 million salary — and to be certain he’d re-sign, as he’s a pending unrestricted free agent.
Will Caps make a trade before the deadline?
Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan has shown he is not afraid to pull the trigger on a big trade (Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley and a pick for T.J. Oshie) and I could see him going hard after Vancouver Canucks pending free agent Dan Hamhuis, who spent the first six years of his NHL career under Barry Trotz in Nashville. Now 33, Hamhuis is recovering from facial fractures suffered on a Dan Boyle shot he took to the jaw back in December.

Calgary Flames won’t commit — yet — to being buyers or sellers at NHL trade deadline
With 13 games on the docket before deadline day, the Flames GM is likely waiting for a hint from his inconsistent squad, and, in the meantime, hoping that his slate of soon-to-be unrestricted free agents — the most obvious trade chips — can boost their sagging stock over the next month.

Stauffer mentioned the Oilers trying to upgrade at right defence from Justin Schultz by moving for either Sami Vatanen of Anaheim or Travis Hamonic of the Islanders, as both teams can use a scoring winger.

St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was born in New Rochelle. He grew up a Rangers fan. His favorite player was Brian Leetch, and it’s believed he wants to play for the Blueshirts one day. He turns 27 on Friday. He is a right-handed shot and a major power play weapon, and he paired with Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh on the United States’ 2008-09 World Junior championship team.

Stamkos can become a free agent this summer, and you can’t get through a couple of hockey shifts without speculation that the Toronto-born Stamkos will end up playing for his hometown team. Rumors ramp up even more when the Lightning plays the Maple Leafs.

If this season is going to go up in smoke, as it appears it might based on the last couple of games they played or didn’t play against the Columbus Blue Jackets, then put yourself in that position for a draft pick. I know the fan base isn’t going to want to hear that, but Bergevin has already declared he’s not firing his coach. If he can’t find a suitable trade, or he doesn’t want to give up the assets just for the sake of making a trade, maybe the silver lining is you continue to drop and all of the sudden you slide into a top 10 spot or higher at the draft.”

Could the Flames shop Hudler?
And TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie added that one player who could be moved on the rental market is Jiri Hudler. McKenzie said that despite the Calgary Flames’ forward having an off-year, he could still be enticing to teams looking to make a playoff push.
Leafs’ Lamoriello getting his trade face on
The most likely Leafs to move: Defenceman Roman Polak, forwards Daniel Winnik, Shawn Matthias and P.A. Parenteau. It’s highly unlikely anyone would be interested in Nick Spaling, Brad Boyes or defenceman Martin Marincin.
Lamoriello has decided not to go to Nashville for the all-star game, choosing to remain in Toronto to plot his trade strategy.
Will the Canucks go after Eriksson?
I think Vancouver plans to be a player July 1 with up to $15 million coming off the books. Pending UFA winger Loui Eriksson, for one, would look great playing alongside the Sedin twins next season. But whether it’s him or other high-profile UFAs, I think Canucks GM Jim Benning will go fishing this summer while he continues to rebuild the foundation.
