I know it’s only Carbo’s first season, but he’s made a lot of mistakes this year. His latest was benching Kovalev during most of the 3rd period of the leafs game. He barely played Kovalev during the powerplays, even though he’s awesome in the powerplay. He also did something when he touched the puck, unfortunately his linemates couldn’t do much.
After missing out on the playoffs this year its time for Gainey to focus on next year and not just the futur every time.
First of all get rid of Samsonov and Kovalev(maybe even Huet) and clear up alot of space. Next, let Niinima walk.
Currently sitting in the final playoff spot the Habs have won 5 straight and have been on fire as of late. With recent wins coming against Toronto, Boston twice, Washington and more impressively the New York Rangers, the Canadiens look to be a major contender for one of the last 3 spots available. They have also won 7 out of 8 and show no signs of quit.
The Habs are on a roll! 5 wins in the last 6 games; flashback to this previous fall? I think so! Habs are in a battle right now for 8th spot in the east and their young guys are stepping up and Jaro Halak, what an impact he’s had. I’m gonna predict, and I may be wrong, the Habs will finish in 7th. And as for the off-season, that’s not for another 4 months. We need to be concerned about now and making it to the cup. I can see this team being a repeat+ of the Oilers last year. Don’t laugh because its happened before. To all Habs fans: Go Habs Go! To all Leafs Fans: Outside looking in!
Who wants to see the K.O. line…I know I do. Why doesn’t Carbo see what would work, why havn’t Koivu and kovalev played together more? I want to see the lines like this.
Habs win Habs win…. Well with a 1 – 0 victory over the Boston Bruins the Habs move into a tie for eighth spot and alot of the credit has to go with the starting Halak. The rookie looked mature in net and was calm under pressure. The only problem with this is, he is still a rookie.
Sheldon Souray will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st the habs do need him to score goals but not re-signing him would save the habs a lot of money to sign other free agents.
Over the past several months I have read a ridiculously number of posts that suggest Saku should go – you should all give your collect heads a shake. He is, without a doubt, the habs best player…it is not even close. Tonight he was absolutely exceptional. He works his ass off, makes things happen, plays with emotion, and has loads of TALENT!! Not to mention he actually WANTS TO PLAY IN MONTREAL (so have some damn respect and try not drive the talent out of town that in fact wants to wear the CH).
Just to clear out something I’ve heard too often recently…
The Habs definitely aren’t and don’t need to go in a rebuilding phasis! The rebuilding has been done through a more than decent drafting by Savard & Gainey. The youth is good and is coming soon. Sure they should continue such decent drafting, but if by rebuilding they mean spending a few years in the League’s dump to scrounge a few high draft picks (in other words, “pull a Penguin”), by no mean I think it is necessary.
This is a great article I found on spectorshockey.net, so here it is:
Due to the fact of a nonstopping slump, me being a montreal fan and will continue and never give up on my habs….I think the best descision for our situation would be for us to drop the rest or atleast a few of our upcoming games. This will cause our place in the race for the cup to drop and we will have a better draft choice! This may not seem to be the best for the player with their point totals but it may be the best for the team, im open to hear opinions and like I say I am a habs fan and will stand to be through any situation.
Oh, for the love of….
First off, this Kovalev thing was total and utter BS, but I see as a fan “since I was born” you are really willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
In case ANYONE was wondering, it is false. Not just my opinion either. Want to know why La Presse couldn’t get hold of the actual recording of his RADIO INTERVIEW?? Because he was telling the truth, and the article that La Presse translated was from a tabloid…in fact, the whole story has been pulled from www.lapresse.ca. Oh, and the reporter who gave the interview backs Kovy up…interesting, isn’t it?
I have been a fan of the Montreal Canadiens since I was born. I have never seen the insanity going on here. First every one complaining about Gainey not talking, the lack of effort on the ice. Now super cancer Kovalev comes out and slams the whole team. Saying that the rookies are acting like vetrans and not listening, he is also saying that Carbo doesen’t like russians. Well im happy that the young kids are stepping up and trying to take leadership, cause it seems like the vetrans aren’t. I don’t think Carbo hates russians, but I do think he hates lazy players ie: Kovalev,Samsonov,Markov. Kovalev’s act has run thin.
So trade deadline is done, and this is the roster we’ll be seeing the rest of the way. But what is the roster of next year? Well, currently those under contract are:
Montreal is on the bubble for a playoff spot and everyone is pretty certain that they won’t get it. A lot of people are blaming Bob Gainey. I’m not sure why this is, because it’s not like he’s the one on the ice taking bad penalties. I’m pretty sure it’s also not him having trouble keeping the puck out of the net. Let’s just settle down a bit here. You’d think he were in a secluded castle being stalked by angry villagers with pitchforks and torches. Let’s just review some of what he’s done so we can see how ridiculous this is.
I liked Bob as a player but have my reservations about him as a GM.
Some moves by Bob:
According to Renaud Lavoie, analyst on RDS, the Minnesota Wild are quietly shopping Manny Fernandez around the league. Quoting a “very realiable” source, Lavoie mentioned that something could happen in the next few hours.
GM Bob Gainey finally pulled off his first mediocre (I can’t call it big) deal of the year, sending Craig Rivet and a 2008 5th Round Pick to the Sharks for Josh Gorges and a 2007 1st Round Pick.
My question to all of you Habs fans is “How on earth can Bob Gainey keep ripping other teams off like this? “
Whats the deal with all the talk about Souray leaving…atm he is our best player who has the most heart for the game! so what happens if he leaves? well without a heart…the body doesnt work and hockey sort of runs the same way so why trade the heart for a kidney? so to speak a player who just wants to make a living and doesnt love the sport? If anyone is to go it would have to be Rivet and Samsonov and maybe a futuristic Ryder? its just to bad that none of the gm’s come on here and see our opinions though! They may be the biggest help!
With Brewer signing today long term today, and Zhitnik just being dealt for Braydon Coburn who by the way is going to be a real good one. Gainey holds all the cards when it comes to D-men. With Rivet, Souray, Markov and to a much lesser extent Ninnima, im sure Bob’s phone is ringing off the hook. Now look at what Philly got for Zhitnik, a very very good prospect. Anaheim got a 1st round pick for Shane O’brien (who I never heard of). Souray and Rivet’s stock just went way up, I think Gainey may not have a choice but to move both of them. With Anaheim moving a D-man they must be looking to add a better one, could it be Souray ??? If it is, I want Ryan Getzlaf in return.
