Satan is an UFA

Miroslav Satan became an unrestricted free agent Sunday after the Buffalo Sabres declined to make a qualifying offer. He has led the team in scoring 6 times, has scored 30 goals 3 times, and is the top 10 for scoring for the Sabres.

Whether Modano returns or not, the Stars will be active players in the free agent market reports the Dallas Morning News.

Bruins Qualify Thornton

TSN.ca reports that the Boston Bruins have made their qualifying contract offer to Joe Thornton, Sergei Samsonov, and eleven other players.

Rocks Report: Remember that oh so busy '02 offseason?

Judging from all of those articles about how Player X and Player Y are coming to the Leafs, and how people are becoming fed up with both the rumors, and the leafs lack of jumping on those rumors has led me to remember that crazy ’03 offseason, where tens of high profile players were rumored to come to toronto, but they balked…where are they now? and did Quinn make the right decisions?

ESPN Bottomline is reporting that Bobby Holik has been bought out by the Rangers.

Offers in New Jersey

The New Jersey Devils have made offers to three offensive players, hoping to solidify their forwards for the future.

Shanny and Yzerman Stay, Foote Gone?

According to reports on The Fourth Period, it looks like both Shanahan and Yzerman are going to be staying with the Red Wings. Yzerman was offered a 1 year deal and Shanahan picked up his player option. It was rumoured that Shanny would not exercise the option and head to boston where his wife is from. Though a huge boost to the club, the most important two guys to lock up are Zetterberg and Datsyuk both RFAs. That may take them the entire rest of the offseason to figure out and may hurt their chances at acquiring players as they will need to fit those two young stars under the cap
