Hockey Trade Rumors

Okay – There hasn’t been anything new posted for a day and a half. Yesterday some of the more creative among us were so bored we went into a movie quote frenzy, which I have been told happens on here from time to time (sorry, Mikster).

Okay – the playoffs are fast-approaching, and those of us fortunate enough to be blessed with a talented team to root for are poised on the brink of becoming raving lunatics (you will notice no difference in my case).

This is about me posting Lucky13’s article (“U.S. vs. Canada…who cares?”): I feel I need to clear a few things up.

Who else but Ales Hemsky on the Edmonton Oilers plays similar to Jarri Kurri? Who else in the NHL, for that matter, plays like Kurri did? I’m thinking maybe 2 or 3 players. Ales Hemsky, a shoe-in for rookie of the month, has 15 points so far this month, with 2 more games to go in March. This kid has only 28 points this year in 55 games. Odds are, about 25 of those points were highlight reel plays. It’s funny, because you can tell which rookies have adapted the best. How? Simple, look in years past a the players who have won rookie of the month in the final month of the season, they’re the ones that adapted the best, and they’re the ones that became great players.

Hello, class. please answer the following questions as quickly and honestly as you can. I know they were inspired by a game that was essentially meaningless, but that’s a good time to let a twisted imagination (such as mine – and yours – I see what you’re doing – put that down and pay attention) run amok and unfettered. Here goes:

A long time ago someone drew this imaginary line in the dirt. If you live on one side of the line, your brother gets to go play in a sandbox in Iraq and beat up the other kids that play there and if you live on the other side of the line, you can pay ridiculous taxes and boo other National Anthems.

If this gets posted I’ll be surprised, but with all the heated debate the Lindros and the Snow articles started I thought something a little more blunt and straight to the point would stir up a better arguement. Is Sather and the Rangers the Punchline to the NHL’s worst joke, or are the fans of every other team in the league simply jealous of the spend money like its water mentality that Sather has? Read and respond.

Larry Brooks reports the Colorado Avalanche spent “considerable time” at the trade deadline trying to figure out a way to obtain Pittsburgh Penguins captain Mario Lemieux as a playoff “rental”. As a team owner, Lemieux is forbidden to play for another team. Brooks suggests Lemieux might sell the cash-strapped Penguins this summer and then shop himself around the league with a $10 million US pricetag.

Personally, I can’t see Lemieux burning all his bridges in Pittsburgh, just to play hockey in another city. Besides, if he goes, the Pittsburgh franchise, which is already on shaky ground, will be all be destroyed. This poor franchise has been through so much, this would tarnish Lemieux’s image, and his legacy with the Pens. I just can’t see him doing this. Why would the Avalanche waste the trade deadline on something that’s basically impossible. Out of curiousity, I wonder what took “considerable time?” It should have been a two minute phone call. You never know, but I can’t see it, that’s just my opinion.

If you were to ask the average hockey fan in Canada who his favourite team is, there’s a good chance he/she will say it’s the Maple Leafs. If you were to ask the average hockey fan in Canada which team he hates the most, it’s probably the Maple Leafs. Toronto fans are a proud…. Sorry, did I say proud, I meant to say overwhelming group of people. For the last few years, their team has played a lot like their fans. They’re the goons of the NHL. Months ago, Sports Illustrated took a stab at them, stating that they’re the most hated team in hockey. I guess it’s inevitable, considering Toronto has the largest fan base, that they’ll have the most fans and the most enemies.

This is not an indictment of Canada for not agreeing with the U.S. lead war against Iraq. As a U.S. citizen who believes in the freedom of speech, I believe citizens and fans have the right to express their opinion. I also believe that the heavy French population in Montreal and Quebec has vastly different opinions from those in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver as shown by the attempts to become a separate country. However there is a time and place for everything and a hockey game is not the forum to express those opinions.

Well, Lindros hasn’t had a great season this year, And With a neutral option for next season … he might not want to come back…… and the Rangers might not want him back either.

Lindros Didn’t really want to be in NY when he was traded … but realized it was his only way out from Philly. He Really wanted to be in Toronto … and may find himself playing in Canada next year were he wants to be.

There seems to be a lot of Red Wing fans out there that are itching to share their opinions about the team. I figured I’d provide that opportunity while sharing some of my opinions about the Wings, and their chances in this year’s playoff.
