Hockey Trade Rumors

Rumors are swirling that the Flyers are up to something. Yesterday they re-called Nolan Baumgartner from the AHL and in order to do they he has to clear re-entry waivers meaning any team can pick him up and the Flyers will be responsible for half of his wage.

According to hockeybuzz.com the NY Islanders a very close to acquiring Blues’ veteran forward Bill Guerin. Who the Blues want back in return is unknown but expect a deal to go down very soon. The Islanders are apparently the frontrunner (when the hell did that happen?) and is one of the final two teams fighting for the services of Guerin. The other team still in the running is unknown at this point, but be sure to keep on the lookout for Guerin in a new uni very soon!

According to Spectorstraderumors and hockeybuzz.com the Chicago Blackhawks are willing to part ways with prospect defenceman Brent Seabrook in order to obtain a second line centre or a promising young centre. The teams beleived to be interested are Edmonton, Philadelphia, Ottawa, and Minnesota. hockeybuzz claims to have this from an extremely solid source. It is also speculated that this will go fast or not at all, and that three other teams (that are unknown) are also putting together mega packages.

The Palm Beach Post speculates that power forward Todd Bertuzzi will remain out of action for the next while waiting for his back to heal from surgery. It is reported that Florida is receiving calls about Bertuzzi however this article does not speculate into what teams are calling.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press is suggesting that the Minnesota Wild are one of the teams making push for Keith Tkachuk.

ESPN Radio 1250 in Pittsburgh is reporting a deal is imminent between the Pens and the Yotes that would send Georges Laraque to the Pens for an unnamed player/pick or both. However Laraque needs to waive his no trade clause and he was also scratched from tonights game against the Flames. If this happens I hope the Pens didn’t give up more than a 4th rounder or the rights to a very low prospect.

Philly.com is suggesting that the Carolina Hurricanes may be looking to add either Geoff Sanderson or Kyle Calder of the Flyers to their roster for the playoff drive.

The Daily Herald is reporting that many teams are shopping the Black Hawks players pretty hard right now. The players that are being looked at include Martin Lapointe, Jassen Cullimore and Bryan Smolinski. Further in the article, older rumors such as Detroits interest in Guerin and Bertuzzi are repeated.

La Press – cyberpress.ca are reporting that the Minnesota Wild and Montreal Canadiens are involved in heavy trade talks. Some of the rumors even involve huge names such as Koivu and Gaborik.

The Los Angeles Daily News is suggesting that the Ducks may need to add a big name/ “fresh face” to their roster in order to re stimulate their early season success. The problem for Burke however is that he is just not willing to give up any of his super talented youngsters for a playoff rental. For example it is thought that Corey Perry was part of the asking price for Forsberg.

The Buffalo News is reporting that the Sabres may be looking to trade goalie Martin Biron for some injury relief. One hot rumor that surfaced this week was the possibility of trading Biron to the Panthers for Ed Belfour and Gary Roberts. Although it was shot down quickly by all parties this trade may make some real sense.

The Boston Globe reports that the on going GM meetings may be the time for Peter Chiarelli to swing a deal involving Marco Sturm.

The Denver Post provides some interesting insight into the end of the Avalanche season. It is speculated that the Avalanche may be looking to “fix for the future” instead of shopping for the now. Of note in this article is that it appears that the Av’s G.M. is wanting to talk contract extension with Joe Sakic and is possibly shopping Marek Svatos.
