Murray and Big Bird In?
With the lose to Boston on Saturday, the Sens officially dropped below .500% in their last 82 games played. With the lose Monday to the Habs, and facing Buffalo 2 of their next 3 games (New Jersey being the other one) the Sens chances of playing above .500% hockey before November is out are not looking good.
It could be for lots of reasons – they have to many young players (second youngest team in the league)? They have to many players in the skilled positions like Heatley, Spezza, Gerber that do not come from winning programs?
Gerard Gallant Fired
Head coach Gerard Gallant was fired yesterday by they Columbus Blue Jackets.
Assitant coach Gary Agnew has been given the ‘interm’ job.
Ducks Deal
According to anaheimducks.com, the Ducks have traded Stanislov Chistov and Todd Fedoruk, while acquiring George Parros.
Roster Moves for Bruins

Three Moves: The Bruins have had a busy day thus far, sending forward Yan Stastny and defenseman Matt Lashoff to Providence. TSN.com is reporting that the Boston Bruins have acquired Stanislav Chistov from the Anaheim Ducks for a third-round pick. Chistov is 23 and spent the 2002-03 campaign with Anaheim, but spent last season in Russia. In Russia he scored 11-21-33 in 47 games with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. As far as Stastny and Lashoff, Coach Lewis thought both had played well for Boston, but their development is better served in Providence.
Waiver Whirlwind for B's
Bruins recall Tenkrat, Assign Brookbank and Hoggan to Providence: Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled right winger Petr Tenkrat from the Providence Bruins of the AHL, and has assigned Wade Brookbank and Jeff Hoggan to the Providence Bruins.
Also, according to the Boston Herald: “Meanwhile, rumors have Brad Stuart going to the Islanders for defenseman Alexei Zhitnik. Defenseman Paul Mara’s name also has churned on the rumor mill. ”
Hawks need offense, badly.
I was watching the game today between the Hawks and the Blue Jackets, and even though they won 1-0 (against a struggling team) they are in desperate need of offense. If you look at their numbers, only 3 teams have scored less goals so far this year (including Philadelphia). However, we have to admit that they have been terribly unlucky this year with injuries to 3 key players in Handzus (gone for the year!), Havlat and Khabibulin. Before this string of bad luck, they seemed poised to battle for playoff position for the first time in a while and their downfall can simply not be pinned on poor management or coaching.
Andrei Kostitsyn called up after disappointing and embarrasing loss to the Leafs
According to TSN.ca, Andrei Kostitsyn has been recalled from the Montreal’s AHL team, the Hamilton Bulldogs. If any of you remember the rookie camp of the Habs, the big story was which rookie would crack the lineup: Latendresse or Kostitsyn. While we all now know the outcome of that, both players played extremely well in pre-season (yes, I know they mean nothing) and showed promise of being able to perform in the NHL.
Sens poised to make a move
Muckler said he would asses his team (The Ottawa Senators) during their last road trip, to see if he needed to make changes. The Sens were 1-3 on the road trip, beating only the struggling penguins.
'Interim' removed from Flyers GM Holmgren's job title
The last-place Philadelphia Flyers removed the interim tag from Paul Holmgren’s title Saturday and made him general manager for the rest of the season.
Rangers Defensive Issues
As you all know the New York Rangers were supposed to be one of the best teams in the NHL. I know it is still early, but if this team wants to be a Stanley Cup contender they definately need to have a better defense. The Rangers just had a three game road trip and it was good to see that Henrik Lundqvist was back at the top of his game. He played very well against Florida and Atlanta. He played a decent game against Washington but the Rangers could only manage to score one goal against Kolzig. But even though Lundqvist was back at his game some of the Rangers defenceman must go, whether it be a trade or they just release them. Two defenceman that must go are Michael Rozival and Marek Malik.

Goaltending Controversy Doesn't Exist
David Aebischer beat Edmonton in Montreal’s last game Tuesday and will be in net again Saturday at the Air Canada Centre against the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, if there’s any rivalry between him and fellow goaltender Cristobal Huet over who’s #1, they’re doing a good job of hiding it.
