Hockey Trade Rumors

The Bruins have reportedly offered forward Teemu Selanne a multi-year contract worth $7.5 million a season or so. Selanne said he wanted to re-sign with the Sharks, but also turned down a deal they offered.

This says that the Bruins have pretty much said goodbye to Bill Guerin. Losing Guerin, but perhaps picking up Selanne, has its good points and bad points. First of all, Guerin would have been captain if he returned to Boston this year, which says that he is an immense leader for the young team. He also scored 41 goals, but his point total was not as high and his plus/minus was pretty bad.

I think Selanne is a better goal scorer, and would provide more offense for the Bruins in Guerin’s absence.

In my opinion, it would be less of a blow to lose Guerin if we picked up Selanne. In fact, it could be an improvement.

It is a matter where Richter will play in the upcoming season, but like Stan Fischler said, free agency is all about money.

A 5 year contract has just been signed by Guerin. Look out, somebody else is perhaps on the way. Dallas has just taken another “BIG” step and another perhaps is about to be taken. I believe it was $45 mill.

The Buffalo Sabres re-signed tough guy Rob Ray to a 1-year deal.

The Florida Panthers traded winger Jason Wiemer to the New York Islanders today (Wednesday) in exchange for defenceman Branislav Mezei.

Defenceman Vitaly Vishnevski agreed to a 1-year contract Tuesday to stay with the Mighty Ducks.

The Maple Leafs have replaced Curtis Joseph by signing Eddie Belfour to a two year deal.

The Detroit Red Wings, who saw goaltender Dominik Hasek retire last week after leading them to the Stanley Cup, will announce the signing of free agent goalie Curtis Joseph today, a team source said.

Joseph, who played for Toronto last season, had not yet signed a contract but had agreed to join the Stanley Cup champions, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Joseph scheduled a news conference for late-morning ET in Toronto.

Joseph told the Maple Leafs he had no interest in signing a new contract with the club, ESPN The Magazine’s E.J. Hradek reported Monday. League sources said Joseph also was considering an offer from the New York Rangers

The Capitals have signed free agent Robert Lang to a 5 year deal which is believed to be a 25 million dollar contract.
